‘Attraction’ Project Continues to Develop Urban Environment in Magnitogorsk

Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK) reports on the near completion of the second stage of the “Attraction” project, a large-scale initiative to transform the urban environment in Magnitogorsk. Viktor Rashnikov, Chairman of the Board of Directors of MMK who initiated and is financing the project, recently toured the construction site and highly appraised the progress being made.

The first phase of the “Attraction” was completed in July 2022 and features 27 hectares of mainly park and recreational space. The project’s second phase involves the development of an additional 90 hectares of park territory, which will be opened to residents and guests of Magnitogorsk in time for Metallurgist’s Day celebrations in July of this year.

Two of the standout objects under construction include a panoramic hill and Big Lake, a large artificial body of water. At present, work has been nearly completed on the vertical planning of phase-two territories and the formation of the panoramic hill, which reaches a height of 36 metres above park level. Experts are currently working to strengthen its foundation and create a surface for various active sports.

Big Lake has likewise already taken shape, with work underway to reinforce the lake bottom, develop the shoreline and equip the waterfront. Builders have already laid the foundations for a viewing bridge and a stage for hosting concerts and other events, which is located between the lake and the main boulevard. The lakeside area will also feature an ecological trail, whose construction has already begun.

As development of the second phase continues, the project creators have already selected suppliers of playground equipment, as well as those who will outfit a planned ropes course, mini-golf course, thematic trails and other entertainment facilities on the territory. Preparations are underway to launch construction of the third stage of “Attraction,” beginning with a children's indoor entertainment centre, an oceanarium with a greenhouse, and an entrance complex with a cascading fountain.

The ongoing construction work has not prevented visitors from enjoying the first winter season in the history of “Attraction,” which has become a resort within the city. The park hosted more than 30,000 visitors in January 2023 alone. Visitors can enjoy the park’s outdoor skating rink, sports equipment rentals, a playground, an ice town and various slides, in addition to a food mall, an information centre and numerous other activities and entertainment areas. Almost every day the park offers different events, ranging from master classes and live performances to children's animation holidays.
