MMK’s hot rolling mill 2000 produces 150 millionth tonne of rolled stock
Sheet rolling shop No. 10 at Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK) has produced the 150 millionth tonne of rolled stock on its hot rolling mill 2000.
First commissioned in 1994, the mill produced its 100 millionth tonne of hot-rolled steel in 2015. Mill 2000 is MMK’s most productive rolling unit and one of the most powerful in Russia. Capable of making practically every grade of steel currently available, the mill is used to manufacture around a thousand different products for a diverse range of applications, including for the pipe manufacturing, construction and machine-building industries. Last year, the mill produced over 5.5 million tonnes of hot-rolled steel.
MMK is currently carrying out an investment project focused on sheet rolling shop No. 10’s reheating furnaces in order to enable them to heat metal to a higher temperature before it is rolled.
