MMK’s Social Investments Reach a Record RUB 3.3. Bln in 2022

MMK Group’s investments in charity and social programmes reached a new record and exceeded RUB 3.3 billion (over USD 48 million) in 2022, almost RUB 2.2 billion of which were allocated from MMK's budget. Despite the difficult economic situation, the social component of the Company's activity remained unchanged, with all social programmes planned for the year implemented in full.

MMK Group has traditionally directed the bulk of its social investments towards charity, for which it allocated more than RUB 1 billion in 2022, including approximately RUB 900 million from MMK. The Company and its subsidiaries are the largest donors to the Metallurg Charitable Foundation in Magnitogorsk, which carries out large-scale charity programmes to support vulnerable categories of the population, including pensioners, disabled individuals, single mothers and low-income citizens. In particular, MMK Group allocated RUB 275 million towards supporting pensioners and the disabled community in 2022.

Another key focus of the Company’s social spending – for which it allocated RUB 564.7 million in 2022 – is healthcare and the implementation of medical programmes for MMK Group employees, as well as the maintenance and support of medical infrastructure on the grounds of MMK and in the city of Magnitogorsk. Notably, the Company invested funds towards the purchase of state-of-the-art equipment for the Central Clinical Medical and Sanitary Unit in Magnitogorsk, including a new angiographic system, a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanner with no parallels in Russia, and other medical equipment for treatment and diagnostics. In addition, MMK supported the opening of a uniquely-equipped rehabilitation centre at the clinic, as well as providing the clinic’s medical unit with new ambulances and assisting with repairs to the outpatient clinic and hospital ward.

Additionally, in 2022 MMK Group allocated funds to compensate employees for the cost of treatment at health and recreational resorts (RUB 566.1 million) as well as for children’s recreational activities at out-of-town resorts (RUB 68 million). In parallel, MMK continued to develop its company-run network of health resorts and recreation centres for children and adults. As part of this work, it has built a modern leisure centre ‘72 F’ at its Yubileyny sanatorium, and opened a multifunctional sports field and a dormitory building for 48 guests in the Uralskie Zori children's camp.

Last year, MMK Group allocated more than RUB 208 million towards supporting a healthy lifestyle, promoting sports and physical fitness, and carrying out maintenance work on sports facilities. In early 2022, the Company launched a unique corporate project called Health Leaders, which aims to encourage MMK Group employees to take part in regular sporting activities. As part of the programme, 20 sports activists (“health leaders”) from among the Company’s employees take the lead in recruiting groups of 10 individuals who, during a six-month course, develop their athletic skills by visiting sports facilities at MMK and across Magnitogorsk free of charge.

Other areas of MMK’s social investments include family planning support and support for mothers and large families (RUB 137.9 million); organisation of cultural events and maintenance of cultural centres in the region (RUB 114.6 million); provision of hot meals for the plant’s employees (RUB 162.2 million); as well as housing, youth and educational programmes, and other voluntary social contributions (RUB 189 million).
