MMK wins national digital award for import-substituting software
Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK) was named the winner of a Priority: Digital 2024 award in the category of Corporate Digital Solutions at a ceremony held at the Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation on 9 July. The Priority: Digital awards are national awards that recognise achievements in the field of information technology.
MMK was recognised for its proprietary project management system, Evolution, which was developed to run on the Russian-made Visary Project platform. The system’s launch earlier this year has enabled the Company to synchronise the work of project teams in a single virtual space and to increase the transparency and efficiency of project activities.
“MMK is one of the first companies in the industry to incorporate an end-to-end digital solution for project activities, reaffirming its status as a digitalisation pioneer. Having been integrated into MMK’s corporate information system, Evolution makes it possible to manage an unlimited number of projects, programmes and portfolios at the same time, as well as to monitor project schedules, budgets and cost-effectiveness. It is important to note that the system was built on the basis of domestic software and is located on MMK’s servers, which completely eliminates any dependence on foreign software,” said Director of MMK-Informservice Vadim Feoktistov.
The Evolution system enables end-to-end project management from inception at the planning stage to assessing the economic impact of implementation. The system includes a Pre-projects module, which provides overviews of project proposals alongside suggested timelines and calculations of their potential economic impact. The system also includes a post-investment monitoring mechanism that enables the Company to track a project’s cost-effectiveness following its launch.
Another advantage of the solution is that it was built on microservice architecture, which means that it can be further modified and customised without needing to rewrite the entire programme code. As a result, the system has a built-in potential for scaling and extensive customisation to meet the needs of each specific project. Evolution is currently being used by the Company’s management team and employees across 25 different divisions.
The Priority: Digital awards have been granted over the past two years for achievements in the creation and implementation of high-tech developments and know-how. The competition is supported by the Skolkovo Foundation (VEB.RF Group).
