MMK Develops Information Sovereignty

MMK executives discussed the Company’s digitalisation initiatives, as well as global challenges and new solutions in the field of import substitution, at the 10th annual all-Russian forum “Information Society: Digital Development of the Regions.”

More than 1,000 IT specialists from 24 Russian regions, as well as government representatives, heads of industrial enterprises and major companies, scientists, teachers and young professionals gathered in Chelyabinsk on September 29-30 to discuss regional digital development, problems of information security and pressing issues related to import substitution in IT, and the development of information technologies to ensure the technological sovereignty of the country.

Vadim Feoktistov, MMK's Chief IT Specialist, discussed the development of digital technologies and their practical application, as well as the development of domestic software, information security, the training of qualified personnel and state support measures in this field at a panel discussion titled “Import Substitution: the Reality of Our Time.” He noted that IT in the industrial sector is undergoing a period of increased pressure due to the unfavorable external environment. Against this backdrop, MMK already has an import substitution programme in place in the field of information technologies within which specialists from MMK-Informservice (part of MMK Group) carry out systematic work on the selection, testing and integration of new and efficient IT solutions.

“MMK takes part in the work of the industrial centre of metallurgical competence within the framework of a government programme to develop import substitution in the digital sphere. The main task of this structure is to develop Russian software that replaces foreign software solutions for the industry,” Mr. Feoktistov said.

Another important topic at the forum was ensuring information security at all levels of company management.

“Information security is the most important factor in ensuring the stable operation of MMK's information systems. We took prompt measures to protect our IT infrastructure,” Mr. Feoktistov said. “In particular, we restricted access to the Company's information resources by external persons and companies, as well as strengthened security measures on the company's external IT perimeter and took other relevant measures. MMK promptly responds to external challenges by continuing to develop its critical information infrastructure protection system and creating an information security operations centre.”
