MMK wins Priority 2023 national award for digital project
PJSC Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK) was named the winner of a Priority 2023 Award for the development and integration of an information system that provides predictive analytics about product quality. The Priority Awards, national prizes recognising achievements in the area of industrial technologies, were held for the ninth time. The award ceremony took place on 28 November at the Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation in Moscow.
The digital solution that MMK submitted to the competition, developed by MMK-Informservice in partnership with the research and development centre Ausferr, uses machine learning technologies to simulate an unlimited range of technological ideas without the costs involved in smelting and rolling products. The foundation of the system is a powerful virtual platform with a database across a range of parameters spanning over the past decade.
“This Priority Award once again confirms that MMK is one of Russia’s leading industrial companies when it comes to digital maturity. Our predictive analytics system, which uses machine learning and artificial intelligence, is in fact a digital testing ground for simulations, where we can test various technical solutions at low cost, make adjustments and thus maximise product quality,” said Vadim Feoktistov, Director of MMK-Informservice.
MMK uses predictive analytics not only to develop new products but also to improve the consumer qualities of its current line of steel products.
Established in 2015, the Priority Awards recognise achievements in the development, integration and promotion of advanced domestic technologies in all spheres of industry and IT. MMK has won Priority Awards on a number of occasions, including for the commissioning of its sinter plant No. 5, the advancement of unique SteelArt polymer rolled steel, and the development and production of MAGSTRONG high-strength, wear-resistant steels.
