MMK-LMZ sets production and supply records

In 2023, MMK-Lysvensky Metallurgical Plant (MMK-LMZ, part of MMK Group) produced, for the first time in its history, more than 300 thousand tonnes of rolled steel products with protective coatings, including over 50 thousand tonnes of products with premium coatings.

The plant operated at maximum capacity utilisation throughout last year. “Our workforce achieved impressive results in terms of increasing production and sales. We established monthly production records three months in a row. At our peak, in October, we shipped 31,800 tonnes of finished products,” said Alexey Kuznetsov, Director of MMK-LMZ.

In total, the site produced and sold 303 thousand tonnes of galvanised rolled products and polymer-coated rolled products, an increase of over a third from 2022 (223 thousand tonnes). This rapid growth was driven not only by increased demand, primarily in the construction industry, but also by measures to maintain uninterrupted operations at full capacity. Investments in equipment upgrades in previous years helped reduce downtime in 2023 and enabled the site to achieve monthly output of 30 thousand tonnes. Measures to improve production planning and to make optimal shipment and logistics arrangements by vehicle and railcar also played a role.

MMK-LMZ focuses on the development of premium products – high-margin rolled products with decorative SteelArt coatings, as well as rolled products with a corrugated (textured) coating. Demand for these products is constantly growing.

In just over a year, the number of SteelArt designs has increased from twelve to more than forty, including Ash, Cedar, Rowan, Maple, Birch, Cherry, Alder and other designs added last year. Every design is available with both a textured coating and a 3D coating. One of the designs created last year is Steel Pearls, which is an imitation stainless steel. Smooth, with a matte finish, it can be used for the production of refrigerators and interior decoration.
