MMK’s project Attraction visited by chief design contractor
The Attraction project, initiated by MMK's Chairman of the Board of Directors Victor Rashnikov, aims to create and develop an urban environment of a completely new quality which has no analogues in the Chelyabinsk region. 25 international consortia (about 100 companies) took part in the competition for the design project and nine world leading companies were progressed to the commercial stage.
Before starting the project work, Stephan Jentsch, the Director of the OBERMEYER office in Munich and Dmitry Sigida, the Head of the OBERMEYER office in Moscow decided to get personally acquainted with the city and the plant, to assess the scale of the client company and their expectations fr om the project.
The visit to the MMK made a strong impression on the representatives of OBERMEYER, especially the scale of the site and the processing stage, wh ere molten metal could be seen. Stephan Jentsch said: "That was impressive. It was also nice to see a large number of blooming lilacs and clean production sites around the territory. The metallurgical plant is the main place around which the whole city has grown. And we are trying to understand, trying to feel the culture of the development of the plant and the city, so that this can be transferred onto our project."
The Attraction project is aimed at creating a comfortable urban environment and will focus on creating modern educational, cultural, sports and medical facilities of the highest level on the territory of Magnitogorsk, allowing residents to actively improve their level of education and culture, to receive quality medical services and to relax. Plans for implementing the project are included in the strategy for the development of Magnitogorsk up to 2035.
"The Attraction project provides for the multi-purpose use of almost 400 hectares of land owned by MMK: a museum and educational complex, sports and medical centres, parks for quiet and active recreation will all be built here,” said MMK's Chairman of the Board of Directors Victor Rashnikov, “When all the works are completed, the residents will be handed over a large area which will be inviting to people of all ages and interests."
The museum and educational complex will include an interactive museum, an educational centre for children, a children's play museum, a centre for innovation and technology, a centre for creative industries, an incubator for social projects, an industrial design centre and much more.
One of the attractions be a sports complex with a swimming pool, an indoor ice rink, an indoor universal sports ground, as well as an outdoor sports grounds, sports equipment rental shops, bike paths and running tracks.
A multifunctional medical centre, equipped with modern equipment, will provide both primary health care and specialised health care, as well as high-tech health care.
The park area will be divided into several zones. The territory for family recreation will include footpaths, pavilions, playgrounds and two artificial ponds. The active recreation area will have a small amusement park, safari park, leisure areas and a skate park.
Implementing the Attraction project will provide opportunities for education, recreation and healthy living for residents and guests of the city to a qualitatively new level, as well as fully reveal the scientific and technical potential of the inhabitants of the region.
