MMK’s new cryogenic plant produces 100 mln cu m of industrial gases
The RUB 4.2 billion unit was built on the site of MMK's oxygen plant No. 5 in July 2018.
The cryogenic air separation unit (ASU) KdAdAr-35/30, developed and manufactured by the Moscow-based company Cryogenmash, generates 35,000 m3 / hour of gaseous oxygen, 30,000 m3 / hour of gaseous nitrogen, 600 m3 / hour of gaseous argon, as well as some liquid output.
The unit is based on a modern cycle with internal compression of air separation products, which allows gas processing under the required pressure without the use of additional compressors. Such technology means the equipment is safer and more reliable.
"We have a long-standing partnership with Cryogenmash. The company designs and develops cryogenic air separation units that meet all our industrial gases needs," said Pavel Shilyaev, CEO of MMK.
"For Cryogenmash, this is the largest air separation unit built based on this technology and it meets the highest global standards. We are proud, that MMK has chosen to work with us, the Russian manufacturer of cryogenic equipment, to construct a unique air separation unit", said Maria Sokolova, CEO of Cryogenmash.
MMK is one of the world's largest steel producers and a leading Russian metals company. The company's operations in Russia include a large steel-producing unit encompassing the entire production chain, from the preparation of iron ore to downstream processing of rolled steel. MMK turns out a broad range of steel products with a predominant share of high-value-added products. In 2018, the company produced 12.7 million tonnes of crude steel and 11.7 million tonnes of commercial steel products. MMK Group had sales in 2018 of USD 8,214 million and EBITDA of USD 2,418 million.
"Cryogenmash" is the largest Russian producer of technologies and equipment for air separation, the supply of technical gases and the development of integrated solutions for the processing of associated, natural gas and LNG. The equipment manufactured by Cryogenmash generates about 70% of the annual production of industrial gases in Russia.
