MMK Group increases spending on social programmes to RUB 2.5 billion in 2018

MMK allocated over RUB 1.6 billion to charitable and social projects. A key aspect of MMK’s and the Group subsidiaries’ social programmes is the encouragement of social activities aimed at improving the health of employees. In 2018, MMK Group allocated around RUB 425 million to employee medical treatment and programmes, half of which was contributed by the mill. More than RUB 428 million were directed by MMK Group to the rehabilitation of employees and their families, who are in hospitals or care homes and RUB 54.7 million were allocated to children's activities and reimbursement for the cost of travel to suburban children's health centres. Employees are encouraged to improve and maintain good health through healthy lifestyle principles and opportunities for regular physical activity and sport. In 2018, MMK Group directed around RUB 130 million to this cause.

Social and charitable programmes are available not only to current employees, but also to former employees. For over a decade, social support for the elderly, disabled and other vulnerable members of society has been one of the main social occupations of MMK and Group’s subsidiaries. In 2018, MMK Group allocated RUB 322 million to this issue, RUB 229 million of which came from the mill.

Traditionally, an important part of MMK Group's social activity has been aimed at increasing the birth rate and supporting motherhood and large families. In 2018, the Group's subsidiaries directed RUB 85.5 million to this cause.

Contributions are also made towards the organisation of cultural work, which, when combined with the cost of maintaining cultural centres, came to RUB 84.6 million in 2018. For the second year in a row, the costs of organizing hot meals for employees doubled. In 2018, the costs came up to RUB 61 million. Spending on housing, youth, education and other voluntary social obligations amounted to RUB 148 million last year. MMK Group's overall investments in charitable and social programmes amounted to RUB 2,486 billion.

PJSC MMK is the main employer in Magnitogorsk and major contributor to the budget of the Chelyabinsk Region. MMK management understands and enacts its obligation of social responsibility towards the company's employees and all residents of Magnitogorsk. The company has repeatedly won the industry competition "Enterprise of mining and metallurgical complex of high social efficiency" and the all-Russian competition "Russian organization of high social efficiency".
