MMK recognised in Top 10 environmental rating in Russia for the 2nd time in a row
The rankings, compiled by the Modern Media Research Institute and Live Planet TV, include environmental initiatives by 33 Russian metal and energy companies covered in the media in January-June 2017. MMK took 10th place in the ratings, thereby confirming the result from H2 2016 and making MMK the only ferrous metal company among the top ten.
Among the MMK environmental initiatives recognised by the rankings as most notable were the reconstruction of the sulphur collection unit no.2 in the sintering plant, the reconstruction of the circulating water supply system and hosting a research conference titled “Problems of Ensuring the Environmental Safety of Enterprises in the Mining and Metallurgical Complex and Single-Industry cities” at MMK.
Constant reduction and prevention of harmful effects on the environment, as well as introducing the best available technologies, are crucial elements of MMK's strategy in order to ensure the long-term sustainable development of the company. MMK plans to invest more than RUB 35 billion into the realisation of the group’s environmental policy by 2025. The key priority of the environmental activities is to reduce pollution levels.
