MMK NAMED AMONG THE BEST ENTERPRISES IN RUSSIA IN RATING BY WWF
The final rating was formed based on the analysis of three components: the company's environmental management, environmental impact and disclosure of information. PJSC MMK is one of the companies that shared first place in the environmental impact section of the environmental responsibility rating for metals and mining companies in Russia. Two other companies received the same number of points: KMAruda and Russian Copper Company.
This study provides a comparison of information on the level of environmental responsibility of metals and mining companies and the extent of the impact of their activities on the environment, as well as giving an idea of the direction of changes in the industry as a whole. This year about 40 of the largest metals and mining companies operating in Russia took part in the rating.
For many years, MMK has been showing a positive evolution in terms of environmental indicators, which have become the criteria for evaluating enterprises in this section of the rating. Among the largest environmental projects implemented by MMK last year was the reconstruction of the sintering plant, the reconstruction of the gas treatment plant of the two-shaft steel-making unit in the electric steel shop, as well as the construction of suction systems at the foundry yards of blast furnaces No. 9 and No. 10.
In November 2019, a complex of hydraulic structures commissioned in the Magnitogorsk reservoir – a key element of the reconstruction of the MMK water recycling system. These projects have significantly reduced the technological impact on the environment.
From 2013 to 2017, MMK's investments in environmental protection amounted to more than 11 billion rubles. MMK's total capital investments from 2018 to 2025 will amount to more than 38 billion rubles and will provide a drastic reduction of the negative impact on the environment.
