ММК recognised among Russia’s top 10 most environmentally friendly energy and metals companies

MMK took 10th place on the list and was the only company from the iron and steel industry in the top 10. The organisers highlight the following MMK achievements:

•           comprehensive programme to save energy and increase energy efficiency

•           construction of a new sinter plant

•           its Environmental Programme 2016 initiatives

•           commissioning an absorption system at sulphur capture unit №2

MMK’s CEO Pavel Shilyaev has said that MMK will invest a total of RUB 35.6 bln in environmental initiatives by 2025. These investments are a part of the Clean City strategic programme adopted in 2015, comprising over 30 environmental initiatives. Some of these initiatives are being implemented in 2017 as part of the Year of Environment, which is held in Russia this year.

The reconstruction of the sulphur capture systems highlighted by the ratings was completed in February 2017. MMK’s total investment in the project amounted to RUB 3.8 bln. As a result of the mill’s environmental programme, its air emissions declined 3,500 tonnes in 2016.
