MMK’s Energy Policy

The strategic goal of MMK’s Energy Policy is to reduce energy costs in the total cost of production.

Since 2016, MMK has been successfully operating an energy management system in compliance with ISO 50001:2018.

MMK is the first industrial company in Russia with a successful track record in implementing energy service contracts. The Company has completed phases I and II of workshop lighting modernisation, which required almost no outlay from MMK. MMK has also implemented a major energy service project titled Frequency Regulation System for Exhauster Drives at Oxygen-Converter Plant.

In 2020, MMK became a recipient of the international Energy Management Insight Awards in energy conservation and energy efficiency under ISO 50001. The award was granted as part of a global forum organised by the CEM Energy Management Working Group (EMWG) and UNIDO and bringing together experts from 25 countries.
In October 2020, MMK successfully passed its second supervisory examination of energy management for compliance with the international standard ISO 50001:2018.
In September 2019, MMK’s energy management system was re-certified for compliance with ISO 50001.
In 2019, MMK was awarded a certificate of the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) for contribution to sustainable development and environmental initiatives in the Chelyabinsk Region and successful implementation of the Energy Management of Industrial Enterprises programme.
In May 2018, MMK won the prestigious international Award of Excellence in Energy Management from the Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM) at the CEM meeting in Copenhagen, Denmark. This recognised global forum was created to promote clean energy policies and programmes.

Winning the leading international energy management award is a testimony to the Company’s adherence to the best global practices in the field, including ISO 50001.
In 2016, the Company introduced Energy Management Platform, an IT solution to manage business processes related to energy efficiency. The platform is designed to accelerate the development, approval, implementation, and roll-out of energy efficiency projects. It is also intended to facilitate the analysis of big data as well as processes pertaining to efficient energy consumption. The platform has helped handle innovative ideas more effectively by significantly reducing the time to implement and increase the share of energy efficiency innovations suggested.
In November 2016, the Energy Management Platform won the all-Russian competition of energy efficiency and energy saving projects ENES-2016 in the Effective Management System in Energy Saving and Energy Efficiency at Industrial Enterprise category. The ENES-2016 international forum on energy efficiency and energy saving is the main industry event focusing on development and implementation of energy efficient technologies and development of the energy sector. The forum was organised by the Russian Energy Ministry and the government of Moscow.
