MMK-Togliatti Centre To Launch New Operations

Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works’ (MMK) production and logistics centre in the Togliatti Special Economic Zone is preparing to launch a longitudinal and cross-sectional slitting line in the second quarter of 2023.

The lines have a capacity of up to 90,000 and 60,000 tonnes per year, respectively, and can process a wide range of coated, hot-rolled pickled and cold-rolled steel in coils with metal thickness of 0.35 to 3.5 mm, width of 850 to 1900 mm, and coil weights of up to 35 tonnes. The equipment can produce up to 14 cuts with a minimum width of 100 mm.

MMK's production and logistics centre was opened in the Samara region in July 2022 to increase sales under the Company’s Just in Time marketing concept and boost its logistics capabilities. With its smart warehouse management system and the use of digital technology, the centre can simultaneously store and process up to 150,000 tonnes of products. Thanks to the centre, MMK was able to launch product deliveries by road within 1-2 days, thereby guaranteeing savings on logistics for the customer, as well as to expand its customer base to include companies that do not have their own access railways.

Another advantage of the multimodal delivery system of the centre is that steel products are shipped in containers to eliminate the need for metal frames, which require carrying out separate maintenance, storage and return from the customer.

For the customer’s convenience, the production and logistics centre provides storage, repackaging and cutting services, and can also carry out metal testing to check for standard compliance.
